Category support added to FTP Upload

Seeing the FTP use spread so rapidly, we have decided to help it to recognize the complete album-category hierarchy.

Since FTP itself can not distinguish between albums and categories as it knows only folders, the only way to go was to use a fixed prefix for categories. We have chosen the prefix (CAT). Now, thanks to the prefix, you can work with your complete category and album structure. This prefix is displayed via FTP only and is not a part of the category name.

This improvement makes it possible to create an album in the correct category and upload photos to it without even opening the bluemelon site.

Here is a list of what you can do with FTP now :
  • Create new albums and categories
  • Rename albums and categories
  • Move albums and categories
  • Delete empty albums and categories
  • Upload to any of your albums

To create a new category, you must use the category prefix (CAT) to inform the system that you are creating a category and not an album. The prefix will not be included in the category name outside the FTP client.

Please note that creating or moving categories or albums within an album will not work. Categories or albums can only be created in a category.

Also, please note that uploading is possible only to albums. Uploading to a category will result in an error.

Guest Uploading for Basic Accounts

With the guest uploading, your visitors can upload photos to your albums by entering an upload password. You can enable an upload password for your whole account or for specific albums only. Also, you can set an individual password for each album.

Until now, only Standard and Business users could use this feature. The storage limits, introduced earlier this year, allow us to extend this feature to all account types including our Basic accounts.

For more information, see the "Guest Uploading" article.

Selling Dashboard page

From now on, photographers can access the new Selling Dashboard page by going to "Selling" >> "Dashboard".

This page contains basic selling data, links to appropriate selling sections, and a status report of your current selling setup.

The Selling Setup Status displays warnings in a case some of your albums have not been watermarked, are missing a corresponding price list, or the access to originals has not been disabled.
Further warnings will be displayed if you have no default price list for your portfolio, no default watermark for new albums or an access to your originals is enabled by default.

This page helps photographers discover possible problems with their business setup.

Selling Setup Wizard

Today we have completely changed the way photographers can set up selling in their BlueMelon account. With the new Selling Setup Wizard, you can have your business started in a few seconds without even going through the menus.

As a new photographer, before you can access any of the selling tools, you will be presented with the new selling setup wizard. This wizard helps you to set the basic selling settings in five simple steps.

In the wizard, you choose a currency, a text watermark to be applied to all of your photographs, the highest image resolution displayed to a visitor to protect your originals, a download price per photo or per album, and a markup for selling prints and merchandise. That's it - you are ready to sell !

After you are finished with the wizard, you are free to customize the selling options further - such as to customize the download products by adding licenses or limiting the resolutions, adding other print lab products, changing prices, personalizing the watermark, creating discount coupons and so much more.

If you wish to re-run the wizard, thus overwriting your current settings, you can do so from the selling dashboard page by going to "Selling" >> "Dashboard".
